Hi... (cont.)
Anyways, now that I'm confident my internet won't take a crap on me while I'm typing, I'll tell you all about my decision to join the Civil Air Patrol... like I promised (lol)... Anyways, I am now officially part of the "Bartow/Etowah Flying 129th Composite Squadron". As I said earlier, we, the Civil Air Patrol, are the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, we specilize in emergency services, counterdrug ops., cadet programs, aerospace edu., and much more! Our squadron is stationed at the Bartow-Cartersville airport, which happens to be the Nat'l HQ of Phoenix Air. I am very proud to be serving my country in this manner, and, I'm not sure if any of you know this, but I plan to be joing the Air Force after I've graduated high school.
Here's a little Tribute...

Some of you probably know about my obsession with the TV show The Office. Well, I found the perfect opportunity to merge my favorite show with my classroom. I found a clip that I could download and show to my students about the use of the words "Who" and "Whom"......

A BIT OF SAD NEWS
For those that don't already know: Robin's boyfriend ,CHAD HORTON, passed away unexpectedly this, sunday, morning. I Know some of you have never met him and some may have met him once or twice, but he was a pretty good guy. I know robin really loved him and i do believe he loved her also. I was around him many times and i liked him and thought he was a good decent person. I know he worked on Robin's car quite a few times and he even cleaned out Pete's gutters a couple of times and he offered to help me buff out my truck all the time. These are little things, i know, but i think it's the little things that show what kind of person someone is.
I know i gave him a hard time most of the time, but i meant it in a good way. As i told robin, if i hadn't liked him i wouldn't have talked to him at all. I think Robin or Chad told me once that he was a cousin to Johnny Horton, who, as you Coots' will remember, sang " NORTH TO ALASKA",which our father played over and over. Anyway, we'll post more as we know more. Please pray for Robin and also Chad's daughter and his family...
and lastly, Chad, may you rest in Peace.

Trying Again WIth Susan's Services
I started to write a little info about Susan's services from another source than my at-home computer and, as you can see, didn't get to finish it. The Coots Clan was well represented at the service--of course, Pete, Peg and Johnny, Ray, Amelia and I, Georgie and her son, Chris, Claudette, Georgie's sister; numerous of Hassell's kids, Bergen's kids. Wanda Sue, her daughter, Sherry and brother, Roger, were there as well. Of course, there were lots of people that no one knew.
The services were held @ her church, the Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church with a dinner for the family held at 2:00 p.m.--it's located behind the Crestview Florist, for those of you familiar with the area. All of Susan's girls, Judy, Libby, Karen and Betsy, were already there with their families. Susan was laid out in her finest dress near the altar in the front surrounded by beautiful flowers, windchimes, memorial throws on display, from well wishers, friends and relatives. The Coots arrangement was spectacular in red and yellow (thank you, Mike). There was a short visitation for community and other friends. They played some of her favorite music as well as a slide show of pictures from Susan's life as a child, young woman, a mom and grandma. She was an inspiring influence according to the many that I spoke with and whose lives she touched. The most common comment was "they always left her presence with a bigger smile than when they arrived." The actual funeral service with her pastor, Reverend Dennis Williams, presiding, was typical Southern Baptist fare and spoke warmly of her, sharing a story when he had not preached and they had guess speakers for her past couple visits and she approached him and asked, "just what are they payin' you for?" The other people from her church that visited her commented much about her sense of humor as well as her inspiration for THEIR faith as they spent time with her.
Tuesday morning, we met at the Tri County Funeral Home in Benham and followed her on the final journey across Black Mountain. The morning was rainy, cold--fitting I suppose, since many were in tears blending in with the rain. As we approached the mountain summit, the trees were cleared for just a little bit and the mountains on the other side of the valley appeared, the bluest blue, with just a hint of the sun breaking above them. The picture is of that while we're wizzing along the curvy mountain roads--was taken with my camera phone so it REALLY doesn't do it justice AT ALL! It was breathtaking!!
We ascended the mountain, through Big Stone Gap and to the Powell Valley Memory Garden where she was laid to rest next to Burt. I had always heard her say that she would find Burt in Heaven and slap him for leaving her alone for so long. The graveside services were short and sweet with the 23rd Psalm being read. We all said our goodbyes and headed for home.
There is talk of attempting to get a reunion together for next summer at some point. Pete and I discussed at least trying to get our "mini-tribal" gathering together for early summer and stay at the Martin home (who have been so kind to share their hospitality with us). We can do our visits as we would when we would take Susan along and perhaps take the trek for those of you who didn't get to attend to see her final resting place.
Personally, I had only gotten to be with Susan a few times over the past several years. I always looked forward to it; always hated to leave not just her but the rest of you too. She was someone I consider to be a real inspiration to me in my own piddly little struggles. She was always very encouraging to me when it came to Amelia, saying to place her in the Lord's hands when it's too much for me to handle. It's His job, not mine. She took the time to write to her when she was both at Oneida Baptist and Midwestern Children's Village. I only know a little about her and feel lucky to have been able to learn about her life and be a part of it. How lucky you all were to have had her ALL your lives.
So that's all I have to say about that. Love to you all.

UPDATE 2
Just talked to Mark. He is doing much better and should be coming home tomorrow. The problem turned out to be a problem with one of his blood pressure meds and they feel they have corrected it.
Mark says he is feeling good and hopefully, once he gets home again, he will take care of himself and be on the road to recovery.

UPDATE 1
Jackie just called. Mark is in ICU at Intermountain in room S204. I called the nurses station. His heart is beating okay right now and looks to be fine. His blood pressure drops when he stands up. They are doing chest xrays, blood and other tests to find out what's going on. His sugar is 95, which is good. No doctor has been in to see him yet.
I did give the nurse an earful about why he needs rehab or at least home care from the start when he is released again. She seemed to understand this but we'll see. I will be talking to Mark and others later today about this.
Luckily, I'm off today to make all these calls. The phone number for ICU is 801-507-4200. He is in room S204. The code is 9316 to have them release information on him.
He keeps this up and I'll be the next one in the hospital.

MARK
Mark was admitted back into the hospital tonight. I do not know much at this time, just what Jackie has told me so far.
Apparently on Sunday, Mark had fainted, thrown up, blacked out, gotten dizzy, had his blood pressure drop, had 911 called, paramedics come and advise him to go to the hospital because his vital signs were bad and Mark refused to go.
Today, Monday, his blood pressure was still low, he felt "anxious" and so he had his friend Claudia take him to the nearest hospital. This hospital then sent him back to Intermountain, where he was being admitted tonight.
I don't know anything else and I wouldn't have known this if I hadn't called to check on him tonight right after he left to go to the hospital.
I will be calling the hospital in the morning to see if I can find out more information and to just reiterate to his doctors and others that THIS is why I asked them to send him to a rehab or have daily homecare when he went home. I am NOT happy.
I'm hoping it's just a case of Mark trying to do too much along with not following the pretty simple rules I'm sure he was given and not anything more serious.
I will post more when I know more.

MARK - LATEST UPDATE
I just talked to Mark!! He is out of ICU and in his own room already - great, great news!!!!!
Mark said he is in a lot of pain, which is to be expected, but doesn't make it any better for him. I told him how well he has been doing to get off the ventilator last night, to be sitting up this morning and getting moved out of ICU so quick. He walked a little, to the wheelchair to move to his room and then to his new bed. He said walking was scary and hurt. I explained to him about all the cuts on his legs where they tried to get veins, but I'm not sure how much he understands or will remember. He seems pretty alert, just in a lot of pain. His voice sounded really good though and Jackie said he looks good, so much better than he did before the surgery. His color is much better and a lot of the puffiness is gone.
He has received the emails from those of us who sent them and was tickled to death to get them. I'm glad he's doing so well but I'm sorry he has to be there by himself, (Jackie wanted to spend the night but he was moved to a regular room too late), while he's going through this.
In any case, Mark is in Room 428. His direct line is 801-507-4428. The nurses station is 801-507-4400.
I know he'd love to hear from people tomorrow and the following days and he really enjoys getting the emails too.

MARK IS OKAY!!!!!
I just got off the phone with Dr. Jones, Mark's doctor. Mark is fine, thank God!
Dr. Jones said they did do a quadruple bypass (previously in the evening, I passed on information from Mark's friend Claudia that she thought they only did a triple) but Mark did well during surgery. Dr. Jones said he did have problems finding veins in Mark's legs due to his neuropathy so he had to take one from under his breast bone. All in all, though, Dr. Jones said the surgery went well and Mark should have no problems from his heart, but his lungs are in bad shape due to emphysema. Since Mark didn't quit smoking until he came in for surgery he may not be able to come off the breathing machine tomorrow and it may be Wednesday before that happens and he can talk.
Mark will be in the hospital for several days obviously so please keep emailing him. He was excited to learn about them from me but he had not received the ones we sent earlier before he went into surgery and Claudia said he kept asking about them and wanted to read them before his surgery, bless his heart. Hopefully, they will have them to him by tomorrow. I'll be calling the hospital tomorrow to make sure there are no more problems with getting these to him.
Mark will be in ICU for the next couple of days. Dr. Jones gave me that phone number - 801-507-4200 - so we can call to check on him. Once he gets moved to a regular room, I will post that number. Jackie and Claudia were going home tonight but are coming back to the hospital tomorrow morning so hopefully someone will be there when Mark wakes up.
So, very good news overall!! Keep Mark in your thoughts and prayers so he has a good recovery.
As usual, I'll keep posting as I know more. Now, I'm off to get some peaceful sleep tonight.

MARK CONTINUED..
I spoke with Mark tonight at the hospital. He is doing okay right now, just bored and wanting a cigarette. He was waiting for the nurse to come in to give him something to help him sleep.
Mark said his doctor stopped by and spoke with him tonight. Dr. Jones told Mark, after reviewing his angioplasty results, he will be performing at least a quadruple bypass instead of the double bypass he originally thought.
Dr. Jones told Mark he felt Mark has a 97% rate of coming through the surgery fine.
Although the news of a more complicated bypass surgery is really upsetting, I'm taking a lot of hope in Dr. Jones' estimate of success.
Mark seemed to be a little low key but calm and had received calls from Pete and me. I told Mark that Peg, Doug and I had sent him emails and hopefully he will receive those before going into surgery tomorrow. Please continue sending emails the next few days as Mark will not be able to talk on the phone but at least can have the emails read to him.
Since his surgery is scheduled so late, I probably won't hear from the doctor until late Monday afternoon or evening. I will call Pete and Peg when I hear something and post the news on here tomorrow night.
I'm not going to call Mark tomorrow morning as he will probably be busy getting prepped, etc. I might change my mind and call early but I don't know. FYI...SLC is on mountain time so they are 2 hours behind us. If anyone wants to call Mark tomorrow morning, they should do so before 11 am our time.
I'll be off work at 2pm tomorrow so if I know anything early I will be posting and calling.
Say a little prayer for your brother.........

FURTHER NEWS ON MARK..
***Edited***See surgery time***
Just to let you know, Mark is at the hospital now. He will be having surgery Monday at 12 noon and hopefully will be done around 5pm or so (his time). His doctor, Dr. Jones, is supposed to call me when surgery is done to give me a status report.
Mark is in Room 4 on the 3rd floor of the Heart/Lung Bldg. It is the Intermountain Medical Center and the phone number is 801-507-7000. He can take calls today but obviously will not be able to or feel like talking tomorrow and possibly Tuesday. Also, he will be moved to another room after the surgery. I will post that room and phone number when I know it.
However, if you go to the Intermountain Healthcare website and go to the Intermountain Medical center page, it will give you the pretty neat option of sending a patient an email (scroll down to resources and you'll see "email a patient"). A volunteer prints it off and takes it to him. The link above should take you to the right place.
I will post another update when I get more information tomorrow.
Please say a prayer for Mark that he comes through this surgery fine and keep him in your thoughts tomorrow and while he's recovering.

FYI---BROTHER ALERT!!!
Just to let everyone know
Mark is having bypass surgery on Monday, Nov 3rd. He will go into the hospital on Sunday, Nov 2nd at 11:30 am for preliminary tests, prep, etc. He does not know what time his surgery is scheduled for on Monday. The doctors are hoping this will be a double bypass, but from his recent angioplasty results, they are not sure. Apparently he now has total blockage and his heart has created it's own bypasses. He also is having trouble controlling his diabetes and that will factor into his surgery and recovery.
He will be at Intermountain Healthcare in SLC. I don't have the phone number for it yet but will post it as soon as I get it as I expect him to receive calls from his family after his surgery.
Mark has both my cell phone number and Pete's number and has passed them on to his girlfriend, Jackie. I've also asked him to give both numbers to his doctors/nurses. I will check in periodically on Monday with the hospital and/or Jackie.
Let's all pray for Mark to come through this surgery with great results!!

Latest Update On Susan's Condition
I spoke with Pete tonight about Susan's condition. She was moved to the nursing home in Corbin very briefly on Wednesday since it was the only facility within miles to have a bed available. She was there only an hour when her temp spiked to 103 abd was sent to the nearest hospital (Thank GOD, NOT back to Harlan). She is now at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. By all accounts, it is a MUCH better facility than where she was. PRAISE GOD!!
She has been diagnosed with urinary tract and staph infections, as well as being dehydrated, still. There is also serious concern regarding her spleen and a mass on one of her lungs. She has been started on antibiotics and a new feeding tube was inserted in her stomach. Further testing and scans on the lung and spleen were to be done tonight.
She is still unresponsive. Per Karen, when Susan was started on the new course of treatments after arriving at the hospital, she did open her eyes briefly and licked her lips, but beyond that, it was blank stares, very briefly. She has closed her eyes again and not opened them since. There will be no scan for brain activity at this time due to Medicare constraints.
Her girls, Karen, Betsy and Judy as well as Tara, her granddaughter, and, of course, Wanda and Sherry will be looking in on her. They are very pleased with the level of care that is being given her at this time. The new doctor is making all efforts to make her comfortable and find out what they are dealing with in regard to her very serious condition. Test results should be forthcoming over the course of the next few days.
Suffice to say, Susan is very, very ill. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. I will post updates as I know them.

HMMMM... FROM BOORTZ.COM
CHANGES IN THE WORKPLACE
You small business owners out there are preparing for life under a Barack Obama presidency. One of our listeners sent us some new rules for small businesses based on Obama's ideals of change and fairness:
As of November 5, 2008, when President Obama officially becomes president-elect, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness:
1. All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a common pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This will serve to give those of you who are under-achieving a "fair shake".
2. All low level workers will be pooling their wages, including overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst you. This will help those who are "too busy for overtime" to reap the rewards from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours.
3. All top management will now be referred to as "the government." We will not participate in this "pooling" experience because the law doesn't apply to us.
4. The "government" will give eloquent speeches to all employees every week, encouraging its workers to continue to work hard "for the good of all".
5. The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because it's "good to spread the wealth around". Those of you who have underachieved will finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and had success will feel more "patriotic".
6. The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks. Don't feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free food stamps, and he'll let you stay in your home for as long as you want even if you can't pay your mortgage. If you appeal directly to our democratic congress, you might even get a free flat screen TV and a coupon for free haircuts (shouldn't all Americans be entitled to nice looking hair?)!!!
If for any reason you are not happy with the new policies, you may want to rethink your vote on November 4th.
I FOUND THIS ON NEAL BOORTZ WEB SITE. DONT KNOW IF IT WAS AN ACTUAL LETTER OR NOT, BUT I FOUND IT INTERESTING. I WOULD LOVE TO POST THIS AT WORK BUT IT MIGHT NOT GO OVER WELL. PLUS WE ARE ALL REBUPLICANS. JUST A COUPLE OF DEMOCRATS.

Susan
Update from Pete last night is that the results of the most recent CT scan show some "discrepancies" in the brain, indicating a stroke. A feeding tube (nose, throat, stomach) was inserted on Sunday evening after we'd left. She didn't respond or move with the procedure. She remains unresponsive. The doctor is also concerned about her kidneys and was to do more testing on kidney function today due to varied conditions that have cropped up--poor output, discoloration, hands swelling, etc. He also began to discuss nursing home care. Susan had stated some time ago that she definitely didn't want to go into Britthaven, there on 119. Wanda and Sherrie know the owner/administrator of a facility in London that would be better care and environment than what is at Britthaven. No decision has been made yet unless it was done today.
So that's what we know today. There may be more to come later after Pete gets the latest from Susan's girls.

Fixins'
The Brunswick stew sounds good--don't know what it is but we've all eaten mystery meals before; chili is always a good standby. Keep those suggestions coming--we'll all bring some snacks given the wide variety of dietary requirements. Just talked to Darrell and they will be responsible for one dinner, you can do one and we'll bring the breakfast fixins'! Can't wait--really looking forward to getting out of Dodge!
Cumberland...Here we come!!!
I'm so excited about this weekend!! I know we talked before about trying to eat more meals at the house rather than trying to choose a restaraunt for every meal (expensive and pesky - trying to pick a place that everyone likes, etc.) So..... what should we all bring? I thought about bringing the fixins for Brunswick stew and chili (that way if you don't like one... you can have the other). I also thought I'd bring some snacks (chips, drinks, etc.)
What do you guys think??

Next Weekend in Kentucky
We are heading to Kentucky on Friday for the fall "gathering of the Coots" tribe--many of them, anyhow. We will NOT be bringing Amelia since she is on electronic home monitoring again--lovely understated black ankle accessory. We originally considered leaving her at home, under Robin's watchful eye. However, Tricia, "warden-in-training" has consented to keep the little darling providing the magistrate gives her permission to do so.
On to more pleasantries, we are really looking forward to our trip and seeing all of you who will be there.

EVENTUALLY THIS WILL SAVE ME MONEY. I THINK.
Day One: Moving $150 plus
Day Two: Too tired to cook or buy groceries, eat breakfast at Golden Nugget $20. Dinner at LaRosa's (free but sucked). Get to watch tv thanks to loaner converter box from Ray.
Day Three : No phone or internet. Came home from work, slept 12 hours. Free.
Day Four: Distracted from unpacking by neighborhood shooting fracas, eat at Wendy's ($12 plus preventing Chad from appearing on local news "I told my girlfriend, Baby, I think there's been a HOMICIDE"; could not prevent him from chatting up the neighbors "We passed the dude when we were coming home, he looked STRAIGHT at me and gave a little nod" which resulted in invitations from Linda, the nosy neighbor to A) play cards and B) go to church. No phone or internet.
Day Five: Discovered cord on back of dryer is bad. Estimate to replace cord and get longer dryer hose $50.
Discovered window in bedroom leaks and sill is warped, rotting. Discovered another leak between front door and storm door. Estimate to repair and seal roof $50, $75, $100, who knows? No phone or internet.
Day Six: Have phone, have internet! During a middle of the night bathroom run, find a CAMEL CRICKET on my bathroom floor. Since I had not seen one since I left Georgia and the nightmares finally ended, this caused paralysis followed by terror. Instruct Chad to get up and kill it. Am informed this is a wolf spider. Shake my head no, no, no while doing my best imitation of the terrified girl, soon to be next victim of crazed serial killer in scary movies, huddled in the corner. Watch while Chad uses a HUGE wad of toilet paper (NO NO NO) to kill a monster. Hear snippets through the roaring in my ears: "That's no spider" "What the HELL is that?" "Look at the legs on that thing" "Damn that thing moves FAST" and finally "Sorry babe, it went under the washer"; whereupon he goes back to bed and falls asleep(?!!?!!). me, not so much.
Day Seven: Declare a day of peace and quiet. Refuse to think about unpacked boxes, unworkable dryer, leaky things, monsters and anything else but some King of Queens and sleep.
Days one through seven: no microwave. logically i know there was life before microwaves but frankly, i'm lost. perhaps i can find one tomorrow during garage sale weekend.
I didn't get to paint before moving in because we went through one can of Kilz in the bedroom and still have a wall and a half to go. So painting will have to wait for awhile i guess.
my new address is 2933 Edgemoor Ln, Dayton 45439. despite the past week, i'm still happy to be sitting here in my HOME.

YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP
No internet yet so hopping on real quick at work just to let you know how it's going in the "park".
We had this excitement last night.
I don't believe any further words are necessary at this point.

IN MEMORY OF MOM
In tears we saw you sinking
And watched you pass away
Our hearts were almost broken
We wanted you to stay
But when we saw you sleeping
So peaceful, free from pain
How could we wish you back with us
To suffer that again
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone
For part of us went with you

ROBIN BUYS A HOME!
This is the story of a girl named Robin
Who has never owned a home in her life
Til this one day when she met this fellow
Who agreed to overlook all the strife
So Robin and this fellow signed some papers
And Robin handed over all the money she could
Which in doing so, almost caused her the vapors
But with time running out, Robin knew she would
And so, Robin became the proud owner
OF HER VERY FIRST HOME!!
said home being a 1976 Redman Riverview Mobile Home
but! it has new carpet! a new bathtub! central air! gas grill! electric lawnmower! a deck! and a whole lotta dark paneling that HAS TO BE PAINTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!
I have no idea how I will get moved this Saturday (no idea = no money (i have ideas)) and when i will get it painted but....
DID I MENTION I NOW OWN MY OWN HOME?
I will be sending out my new address soon..........phone will stay the same!

MISSIVE (MISSILE?) FROM PETE
Tyler is graduating from basic training on October 3rd. Pete, Kim, Ron and the kids will be going down there for the ceremony.
Pete asked that I post Tyler's address on the blog (yes, the blog. you gotta love the irony) so that anyone who might want to, can send him a card or whatever.
We all know (because I've blogged about it before) how Tyler had always wanted to be in the service, what a trial it was, with many disappointments, before he was finally accepted. I think it would be nice if those of us who can send him a little card congratulating him and letting him know how proud we are of him. (Say a little prayer while you're at it that he never gets sent over to fight in that motherclucking war).
Because I've had some HUGE things going on, I haven't been posting much so this is a little on the running out of time side, but if you hurry, you can get a card to him before the 3rd. After the 3rd, his address will change.
SOOOO.......Tyler's address is:
PV1 Tyler Trimbach
CO G 1/46th AR 1st PLT
3576 Wilson Road
Fort Knox, KY 40121-5728
In other news, Mark has a couple of videos he wants to share with everyone that he found about kentucky...i thought it would appropriate for those of you heading that way next month.
Here's one about Benham-Lynch and the coal mines:
and here's one about the road over black mountain:
There's more where those came from.
And last, but certainly not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MICHELLE (you certainly don't look almost 40), JOHNNY (you certainly don't look old enough to have a daughter almost 40) and MIKE (you never read this anyway). Hope all your birthdays were and are fantabulous!!
I will be posting sporadically, if at all, for a couple of weeks, due to some HUGE changes which I will explain later.
Tootles!
p.s. this pretty much uses up all my good cheer, charm and make nice to other people for the month.....enjoy it while it lasts. it's not you......it's me.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION
Well, we got our electric back on thursday(i think). So no more poopy in the woods. Within two hours of getting our electric back, the dumb farmer across the road ran his corn picker into the telephone pole and knocked out the phone line. the phone company came out and said the pole had a hot wire so we would have to wait for DP&L to come out. So i guess they came out yesterday (tuesday), because we now have our phone back today! Now we only have to wait on ALLSTATE INS. to get their sorry slow asses out here. They said that they have priorities! Such as people that are unable to live in their homes have to come first. And i told them bullshit! I am their highest priority and they better damn well recognize it! Like i give a rat's ass about anybody else! Anyway, to make a long story short, now they say they might not come out, just want us to fax them some estimates and e-mail some pictures. Why the hell didn't they say that a week ago. ALSO, sunday's newspaper had a picture of an eighty year old lady holding up a sign that said: DP&L SUCKS!, she said she hadn't been honked at that much since she was sixteen.

HMMM glad I live in the mountains on Tennessee. Although we just had our bout with gas prices. Knoxville was the highest in the country for about a week at $4.59 to $4.99. On a good note I played in a softball tournament last weekend and my team came in 5th, not bad for a new team. I hiope to have pics up on here soon. in closing I would like to say Happy birthday to Michelle and Dad. Hope to see everyone in October.

REASON #564 WHY TO MOVE TO UTAH
cause the mountains block the hurricanes, nuff said except for hahahahahahaha!
REASON #563 NOT TO LIVE IN OHIO: IKE
Yep, Doug wasn't kidding. Ike decided that (despite the state's motto) Texas WASN'T big enough and for fun, came up here to show us what a hurricane really felt like. So, except for no water and very little rain (which came later), we got to experience 70+ mph winds for about 5 hours or so. Over 700,000 people were without power in the greater Cincinnati area and about 300,000 in the Dayton area.
Pete's power came back on Sunday around 5:30 or 6. My power came back on Tuesday around 1:30 pm. Doug STILL has no power. The people behind me and over to Lehigh back to Lamme still have no power, nor do many other around here. Haven't heard from Ray & Lola, so I don't know if they have any or not, I know Tricia didn't have any power as of Tuesday morning. Pete and I just happened to think of John and Zola, one of us will try to check on them Wednesday. There is problems with the phone lines too, so I don't know. My cell works, of course, but my home phone quit working yesterday. Haven't heard anything from Michelle and I know Butler county was hit hard too, but I'm assuming she's okay.
It's not been fun. Most of the stores are closed and the ones that are open are running out of supplies fast and are packed. Same thing for gas stations and fast food restaurants. DP&L are still forecasting it will take up to Saturday or Sunday to get everyone back on line. They apparently use some kind of cloaking device on their trucks and workers since no one has actually SEEN a DP&L truck or worker since this happened.
Frickers burned to the ground early Monday morning. It took them about 5 hours to put out the fire. I know this since there was a fire truck on my street in front of my house running the entire time (it took many trucks, fire hydrants and water hoses to put that fire out). Also, the smoke from the fire blew into my apartment through the only window I can open. (if you're thinking what a fun time i had that night, you'd be so NOT right.) Most of the schools have been closed. It's been a real mess. Be glad you aren't here.
Still, it could be a lot worse - the people in Texas aren't having much fun either.
I always thought "Ike" was such a nice, grandfatherly name. Turns out, Ike is a right bastard.
Some pics I borrowed from the dailynews.

WORST WIND STORM IN OHIO HISTORY
WELL, WE ARE STILL HERE! NO WATER AND NO ELECTRIC SINCE SUNDAY. WE ARE STARTING TO GET PRETTY THIRSTY AND PRETTY SMELLY. WE HAVE WELL WATER, SO WITHOUT ELECTRIC WE HAVE NO WATER AT ALL. NO FLUSH THE TOILET. NO SHOWER. NO WASH THE CLOTHES. WE HAVE BEEN COOKING ON THE GRILL, ON AN OPEN FIRE, USING CANDLES AND FLASHLIGHTS. AND POOPING IN THE WOODS. I GUESS WE'LL BREAK DOWN AND GET A HOTEL TONIGHT. DP&L SAYS IT MAY BE SATURDAY BEFORE ALL POWER IS RESTORED. ALLSTATE INSURANCE SAYS IT WILL TAKE 3 DAYS TO COME OUT AND ASSESS THE DAMAGE. WE HAVE ABOUT 5 TREES, OR PART OF, THAT ARE DOWN. A LOT OF SHINGLES ARE OFF OUR ROOF. THE FENCEWALL BETWEEN OUR HOUSE AND GARAGE BLEW DOWN. THE BACK YARD LOOKS LIKE A WAR ZONE. SHINGLES BLEW ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE GRAVEL PIT.

SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAYS

AT THE BEGINNING OF A NEW SCHOOL YEAR, IT'S IMPORTANT TO LOOK BACK...
Here's Doug back when he was a clean cut young man.....but you can tell by the hip goatee, he was already taking a glance at the wild side........
And not even a year or so later, after listening non stop to that "new" rock n roll music (and coincidentally, after watching an early episode of the Monkees), he appears much more "hip"
As much fun as this has been, in all fairness, I must add a photo from my "future librarian" days..........
Go ahead, do yourselves. You know you want to!

THINGS TO PONDER
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET SCARED HALF TO DEATH TWICE?
WHAT IS ANOTHER WORD FOR THESAURUS?
I'VE HAD AMNESIA AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER
I DON'T SUFFER FROM INSANITY, I ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT
ON THE OTHER HAND, YOU HAVE DIFFERENT FINGERS
YOU CAN'T HAVE EVERYTHING, WHERE WOULD YOU PUT IT?
REMEMBER, YOU ARE UNIQUE, JUST LIKE EVERBODY ELSE
WHY IS ABBREVIATION SUCH A LONG WORD?

Any Takers?
I would like to have a count of any of those that think they might be going to Cumberland in October. Just wanting to make sure that we have plenty of time to get the house or the cabin. Hope all is well with everyone.
New news--Rebekah, Raylene's youngest is a new mom; Jack Robert was born Thursday. According to the reports, all is well. Parents and Jack are fine. Will try to post pictures later on.
Peace out.

OK yes I used to work as a bartender, second never trust a bartender who doesnt drink, because if they dont drink your drinks will suck. Third the bar is doing very well and whenever becky needs my help and I am there I help her out, her bar is doing very well. I never said I wasnt a drunk. I admit it I like the alcohol. Now as for the jealous part, please I feel that marriage is an institution and in that institution you have to be committed and to me that sound too much like being in the looney bin ( to quote the great Gene Simmons). Now what makes you think that my life is miserable and unhappy? I have a great job and lots of freinds, I am happier in my life than you could ever imagine. As for the choice part of your comment, I refuse to even dignify that with a response. Learn to take a joke John Jesus Christ on horseback (to quote my favorite aunt Robin). Ok so if youve read this far just thought I would say hey to everyone and hope to see you Labor day weekend. In closing I would like to say GO OBAMA then next President of the U.S.

MOVE UPDATE
looks like as much as Candi and i would like to move to Ohio, it's not going to happen anytime soon. she loves it up there and likes everyone she met, but her dad got his results back from his cancer doctor and he does in fact have cancer in his arm again, as well as his prostate, and his lungs. the docs are meeting this week and will call him back down to Augusta to discuss what his options are. I've been told it doesn't look good and there may not be much they can do for him. her dad has been though all this before with the cancer in his arm, so I'm not real sure he will do radiation or chemo again. we all know what lung cancer means and right now Candi doesn't know what to think. she has done allot of crying and i have done allot of comforting. so i think for right now we will stay down here where we cant breath the air.
now for the answer to brandy's question about chance and his change of jobs. I'm sure chance did work in a bar at one time but who knows cause he switch's job and cars like he does his underwear. and besides lets face it I'm sure the bar he was working in was losing money. i mean hello!! drunk working in a bar!! DUH. and as for the comment about me and being pregnant.. well all i have to say is don't be jealous of my happiness. its no ones fault but your own you live a miserable boring dark life. that's the road you chose to take.
