Aunt Susan
Susan passed away today around 5pm. She went peacefully in her sleep. She'll be missed dearly.
Pete will let everyone know the funeral arrangements as soon as she knows them, probably tomorrow.
For my brethren and companions' sake, I will now ask, Peace be with thee. ~Psalms 122:8

MARK - LATEST UPDATE
I just talked to Mark!! He is out of ICU and in his own room already - great, great news!!!!!
Mark said he is in a lot of pain, which is to be expected, but doesn't make it any better for him. I told him how well he has been doing to get off the ventilator last night, to be sitting up this morning and getting moved out of ICU so quick. He walked a little, to the wheelchair to move to his room and then to his new bed. He said walking was scary and hurt. I explained to him about all the cuts on his legs where they tried to get veins, but I'm not sure how much he understands or will remember. He seems pretty alert, just in a lot of pain. His voice sounded really good though and Jackie said he looks good, so much better than he did before the surgery. His color is much better and a lot of the puffiness is gone.
He has received the emails from those of us who sent them and was tickled to death to get them. I'm glad he's doing so well but I'm sorry he has to be there by himself, (Jackie wanted to spend the night but he was moved to a regular room too late), while he's going through this.
In any case, Mark is in Room 428. His direct line is 801-507-4428. The nurses station is 801-507-4400.
I know he'd love to hear from people tomorrow and the following days and he really enjoys getting the emails too.

MARK IS OKAY!!!!!
I just got off the phone with Dr. Jones, Mark's doctor. Mark is fine, thank God!
Dr. Jones said they did do a quadruple bypass (previously in the evening, I passed on information from Mark's friend Claudia that she thought they only did a triple) but Mark did well during surgery. Dr. Jones said he did have problems finding veins in Mark's legs due to his neuropathy so he had to take one from under his breast bone. All in all, though, Dr. Jones said the surgery went well and Mark should have no problems from his heart, but his lungs are in bad shape due to emphysema. Since Mark didn't quit smoking until he came in for surgery he may not be able to come off the breathing machine tomorrow and it may be Wednesday before that happens and he can talk.
Mark will be in the hospital for several days obviously so please keep emailing him. He was excited to learn about them from me but he had not received the ones we sent earlier before he went into surgery and Claudia said he kept asking about them and wanted to read them before his surgery, bless his heart. Hopefully, they will have them to him by tomorrow. I'll be calling the hospital tomorrow to make sure there are no more problems with getting these to him.
Mark will be in ICU for the next couple of days. Dr. Jones gave me that phone number - 801-507-4200 - so we can call to check on him. Once he gets moved to a regular room, I will post that number. Jackie and Claudia were going home tonight but are coming back to the hospital tomorrow morning so hopefully someone will be there when Mark wakes up.
So, very good news overall!! Keep Mark in your thoughts and prayers so he has a good recovery.
As usual, I'll keep posting as I know more. Now, I'm off to get some peaceful sleep tonight.

MARK CONTINUED..
I spoke with Mark tonight at the hospital. He is doing okay right now, just bored and wanting a cigarette. He was waiting for the nurse to come in to give him something to help him sleep.
Mark said his doctor stopped by and spoke with him tonight. Dr. Jones told Mark, after reviewing his angioplasty results, he will be performing at least a quadruple bypass instead of the double bypass he originally thought.
Dr. Jones told Mark he felt Mark has a 97% rate of coming through the surgery fine.
Although the news of a more complicated bypass surgery is really upsetting, I'm taking a lot of hope in Dr. Jones' estimate of success.
Mark seemed to be a little low key but calm and had received calls from Pete and me. I told Mark that Peg, Doug and I had sent him emails and hopefully he will receive those before going into surgery tomorrow. Please continue sending emails the next few days as Mark will not be able to talk on the phone but at least can have the emails read to him.
Since his surgery is scheduled so late, I probably won't hear from the doctor until late Monday afternoon or evening. I will call Pete and Peg when I hear something and post the news on here tomorrow night.
I'm not going to call Mark tomorrow morning as he will probably be busy getting prepped, etc. I might change my mind and call early but I don't know. FYI...SLC is on mountain time so they are 2 hours behind us. If anyone wants to call Mark tomorrow morning, they should do so before 11 am our time.
I'll be off work at 2pm tomorrow so if I know anything early I will be posting and calling.
Say a little prayer for your brother.........

FURTHER NEWS ON MARK..
***Edited***See surgery time***
Just to let you know, Mark is at the hospital now. He will be having surgery Monday at 12 noon and hopefully will be done around 5pm or so (his time). His doctor, Dr. Jones, is supposed to call me when surgery is done to give me a status report.
Mark is in Room 4 on the 3rd floor of the Heart/Lung Bldg. It is the Intermountain Medical Center and the phone number is 801-507-7000. He can take calls today but obviously will not be able to or feel like talking tomorrow and possibly Tuesday. Also, he will be moved to another room after the surgery. I will post that room and phone number when I know it.
However, if you go to the Intermountain Healthcare website and go to the Intermountain Medical center page, it will give you the pretty neat option of sending a patient an email (scroll down to resources and you'll see "email a patient"). A volunteer prints it off and takes it to him. The link above should take you to the right place.
I will post another update when I get more information tomorrow.
Please say a prayer for Mark that he comes through this surgery fine and keep him in your thoughts tomorrow and while he's recovering.
