Latest Update On Susan's Condition

I spoke with Pete tonight about Susan's condition. She was moved to the nursing home in Corbin very briefly on Wednesday since it was the only facility within miles to have a bed available. She was there only an hour when her temp spiked to 103 abd was sent to the nearest hospital (Thank GOD, NOT back to Harlan). She is now at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. By all accounts, it is a MUCH better facility than where she was. PRAISE GOD!!
She has been diagnosed with urinary tract and staph infections, as well as being dehydrated, still. There is also serious concern regarding her spleen and a mass on one of her lungs. She has been started on antibiotics and a new feeding tube was inserted in her stomach. Further testing and scans on the lung and spleen were to be done tonight.
She is still unresponsive. Per Karen, when Susan was started on the new course of treatments after arriving at the hospital, she did open her eyes briefly and licked her lips, but beyond that, it was blank stares, very briefly. She has closed her eyes again and not opened them since. There will be no scan for brain activity at this time due to Medicare constraints.
Her girls, Karen, Betsy and Judy as well as Tara, her granddaughter, and, of course, Wanda and Sherry will be looking in on her. They are very pleased with the level of care that is being given her at this time. The new doctor is making all efforts to make her comfortable and find out what they are dealing with in regard to her very serious condition. Test results should be forthcoming over the course of the next few days.
Suffice to say, Susan is very, very ill. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. I will post updates as I know them.

HMMMM... FROM BOORTZ.COM

CHANGES IN THE WORKPLACE
You small business owners out there are preparing for life under a Barack Obama presidency. One of our listeners sent us some new rules for small businesses based on Obama's ideals of change and fairness:
As of November 5, 2008, when President Obama officially becomes president-elect, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness:
1. All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a common pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This will serve to give those of you who are under-achieving a "fair shake".
2. All low level workers will be pooling their wages, including overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst you. This will help those who are "too busy for overtime" to reap the rewards from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours.
3. All top management will now be referred to as "the government." We will not participate in this "pooling" experience because the law doesn't apply to us.
4. The "government" will give eloquent speeches to all employees every week, encouraging its workers to continue to work hard "for the good of all".
5. The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because it's "good to spread the wealth around". Those of you who have underachieved will finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and had success will feel more "patriotic".
6. The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks. Don't feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free food stamps, and he'll let you stay in your home for as long as you want even if you can't pay your mortgage. If you appeal directly to our democratic congress, you might even get a free flat screen TV and a coupon for free haircuts (shouldn't all Americans be entitled to nice looking hair?)!!!
If for any reason you are not happy with the new policies, you may want to rethink your vote on November 4th.

I FOUND THIS ON NEAL BOORTZ WEB SITE. DONT KNOW IF IT WAS AN ACTUAL LETTER OR NOT, BUT I FOUND IT INTERESTING. I WOULD LOVE TO POST THIS AT WORK BUT IT MIGHT NOT GO OVER WELL. PLUS WE ARE ALL REBUPLICANS. JUST A COUPLE OF DEMOCRATS.

Susan

Update from Pete last night is that the results of the most recent CT scan show some "discrepancies" in the brain, indicating a stroke. A feeding tube (nose, throat, stomach) was inserted on Sunday evening after we'd left. She didn't respond or move with the procedure. She remains unresponsive. The doctor is also concerned about her kidneys and was to do more testing on kidney function today due to varied conditions that have cropped up--poor output, discoloration, hands swelling, etc. He also began to discuss nursing home care. Susan had stated some time ago that she definitely didn't want to go into Britthaven, there on 119. Wanda and Sherrie know the owner/administrator of a facility in London that would be better care and environment than what is at Britthaven. No decision has been made yet unless it was done today.
So that's what we know today. There may be more to come later after Pete gets the latest from Susan's girls.

Our cousin Naomi's husband, Harold Hageman, passed away last month. Pete had mentioned it last week and I looked it up online.

Here's a link to his obituary if anyone wants to read it.

I was always fond of both Naomi and Harold, sad to see they're both gone now.
