john, that would've been the fort leavenworth, the military prison. this is the federal prison. wrong branch of the family also.

michelle said...

so....... WHO WAS IT???

Robin said...

snippy, snippy! someone's sick and in bad mood.

ok, the relative was my (our) great uncle Lily Coots. He shot a man just to watch him die. Well, actually, I think he shot the man who was messing around with his wife. Lily was a deputy in Cumberland and the dude he shot was a former deputy and an union organizer. The lady (Betty Scott) who was contacted by the oil company is Lily's granddaughter. Someday, I'll get the whole story from her.

QUESTIONS
1. THEY HAD DEPUTIES IN CUMBERLAND?
2. IN 1940?
3. THEY WOULD LET A COOTS BE A DEPUTY?
4.IT'S AGAINST THE LAW TO SHOOT A MAN WHO MESSES AROUND WITH YOUR WIFE?
5. IN CUMBERLAND?
6. IN 1940?
7.IF HE WAS THE DEPUTY THEN WHO DID THEY CALL TO ARREST HIM?
8. WHY DIDN'T HE SHOOT THEM TOO?
I HAVE HEARD THIS STORY BEFORE, BUT I THOUGHT HE SHOT SOMEBODY IN A POKER GAME AND TOOK OFF AND THEY HAD TO HUNT HIM DOWN IN THE HILLS AND WHEN THEY FOUND HIM HE WAS LIVING WITH A PACK OF WOLVES OR APES OR SOMETHING!
