What the Moderator Was Alluding To..
We have been trying for sometime to get Amelia into a facility that is better able to cope with her issues than, obviously, we are. For those who don't know or understand, we have discovered that she has signs of fetal alcohol effect--brain dysfunction that stems from my sister's drinking when she was pregnant and other of the crap (attachment disorder) from neglect and abuse that occurred in her household prior to Amelia coming to live with us at age 3. You might all think that she's just a normal teen but you don't live with what we have. Ray and I knew that there was something more going on than what the so called professionals have been telling us, lo' these many years and it worsens all the time. Although, she is currently getting neurofeedback to help "reroute the brain waves to where they should be", it is helping in very small ways that, in the scale of things, are huge. We have been on a waiting list for this particular facility since April and will be going to the pre-admission interview, Sept. 25th. It was the 11th and was postponed due to my new job. As Robin had so kindly requested, please keep us in prayer over this whole matter. This facility has had good success with the type of things we've experienced with her and are hoping that she will also be a success story. She is ambivalent about the change but is hoping for a better life for herself as well. Please pray for her half-brother, Raymond, also. Their parallel self destruction is uncanny. His adoptive family is also being forced to seek out of home placement for him due to some matters that are even more serious than what we have dealt with. PSA--public service announcement: if you know of any young person or someone who drinks, warn them of the aftermath of drinking when pregnant. The consequences are devastating to all who surround the affected child. If you know anyone who has a baby and is neglecting and abusing them, don't be a wuss---call Children's Services EARLY--don't depend on the person to change. As lame as CSB is, they are the only game in town and sometimes, they can make a difference. Gotta go. Hoping to have more upbeat news for our next post.
